RIP MJ.

Despite his recent crazy circus-like antics (child-molestation cases, baby-dangling antics, nose falling out and other cosmetic surgeries, putting up his personal items and Nevada ranch for auction etc), I've got to admit that I am de-vas-tat-ed by the death of Michael Jackson.

I just caught 13 Going On 30, and saw MJ's Thriller dance. It was so amazing, and together with his other songs like Black & White (which was the mass dance song for our juniors so the OGLs had to learn the moves), Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Billie Jean (the iconic moonwalk dance)...

I remember my previous maid sharing her love for MJ to me. I was in primary school then. She would introduce me to his songs, and she would sing his songs when she was cleaning the house.... so I kinda grew up with his music.

During my stint at CNA last year, there were many entertainment news about him and I thought, 'What a freak', but sometimes you don't know how much the media distorts. Whatever, he is and will be the legend of our generation. He is in his own league man.

I am going to console myself by playing all his songs on repeat.

"Simple As It Should Be"- Tristan Prettyman

Watching Tristan Prettyman perform was like experiencing a cool waft of summer breeze with chilled lemonade in hand.

Gracing the stage of the Recital Studio with acoustic guitar and rhythm section, Tristan exuded the charm of the girl-next-door who happened to love writing observations of her life down and make them into little songs. No overblown melodrama, no diva-sque wailing -- just a lot of heart, sincerity and carefree-ness in her set that consisted mostly of tracks from The Love EP and t w e n t y t h r e e.

Working songs like Breathe, Evaporated, Guest Check, Void, Smoke, Tristan also entertained the supportive crowd with her stories of lost luggage, shopping adventures, hairy American men (her two band mates), life in San Diego, days of working in a pizza restaurant, and the cheeky song Lindsay Goes To Rehab specially written for her "home girl" Linday Lohan that sent the crowd into massive chuckles.

It was such lightheartedness and amiability that made us feel closer to Tristan and her music. Like she so poignantly pointed out, we should all "hang out and be thankful to be alive." As the song Simple As It Should Be played on, we knew we would go home with a smile.

I'm kinda sad that the annual Mosaic Music Festival at the Esplanade is all over too soon. I went down to support my ex-JC literature teacher's band (omg, yes, he plays in a band, how cool is that!). The name of his Scottish-Irish-English band is Aim Giam, meaning 'No Name' in Irish. The music gets its influence from the different nationalities and cultures of the 4 men making up the group.

Mr Woolhead's band, Gan Aimn!

There's sir, on the left! Woohoo.

Their music conjures up festive images of a huge Scottish party with huge jugs of Irish beer to go around, and it makes you wanna just kick of your shoes, do a few skips and tap-dancing!

Ok, I'm sleepy, more updates when time permits.
